Hi,
it's me again! Climate change, climate change, It's destroying
not only my habitat in the Arctic, but it's causing chaos on
Earth! Learn how and why climate change is affecting our planet!
Hope you learn a lot about this HUGE problem.cbg |

So what is this climate change everyone
is talking about?
-
Climate is the “average
weather” that a given region, like for example Ottawa, Ontario,
experiences.
-
Changes can occur in
weather patterns over time. It can become colder or warmer.
-
Global warming is the
increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere.
-
This increase in temperature
can cause changes in climate.
-
When scientists talk
about CLIMATE CHANGE, they are concerned about global warming
that is caused by human activity.
Global warming is happening all over
the world!
Global warming has been happening slowly
for centuries. However, RIGHT NOW because of increased pollution and
the continuous burning of fossil fuels, more and more greenhouse gases
are being produced than ever before. These gases are trapping the
warm air around our planet. This is called the GREENHOUSE
EFFECT. This has been increasing at such a rate that there has
been and continues to be significant climate change.
United Nations Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change Predicts
In 2007 the United Nations estimated
that the global average temperatures on the surface of the earth
could increase so much that
-
ice caps will melt,
-
animal habitats will
be destroyed,
-
glaciers would melt and
the sea levels will rise.
-
Extreme weather patterns
would develop all over the world- from droughts
to too much rain, causing great hardship for everyone.
We Must Act Now
