This project was designed to meet the following Ontario Ministry of Education Expectations:

 Grade 6 Social Studies:

-identify early explorers who established settlements in Canada and explain the reasons for their exploration
-use appropriate vocabulary (e.g., social, political, economic, explorers, contributions) to describe their inquiries and observations;--formulate questions to serve as a guide to gathering information (e.g., about European diseases and their impact on Aboriginal peoples);
- construct and read a variety of graphs, charts, diagrams, maps, and models for specific purposes (e.g., to trace the routes of the explorers);
-communicate information, using media works, oral presentations, written notes and descriptions, drawings, tables, charts, maps, and graphs.
-describe early explorers' perceptions of Aboriginal peoples' way of life;

Language Arts Expectations-

-communicate ideas and information for a variety of purposes and to specific audiences
-revise and edit their work in collaboration with others
-use correct punctuation
-use writing for various purposes and in a range of contexts
-contribute and work in groups
-use and integrate media materials into their work
