Biography:

Karleen was born in Toronto, Canada on December 16 1936, but when she was 9 she moved to Argentina, South America with her parents. She came back to Canada to study at the University of Toronto and met her husband Jim. He got a job as a Foreign Services Officer and because of that she spent the next 34 years traveling around the world. She went to some cool places like Brazil. She had her first son in Canada, her daughter in Columbia and one more son in England. She now lives in Owen Sound, Ontario.  

Why she became a writer:

Karleen became a writer because she pretty much really loved to write and read as soon as she could. Her love for books kept growing and growing. So today she is a great author.  

Types of books:

Karleen writes fiction and some non fiction books. She writes some fantasy books like Dragonfire. She is the author of 18 books of fiction for kids and young adults. You can read our  reviews of her books Dragonfire and Shadows on a Sword. We think she is a really cool author.  

Achievements/Awards:

 Karleen Bradford has won many awards. Here are some of them. You can see them on her website.

  • There Will be Wolves is Winner of the Canadian Library Association 1992 Young Adult Book Award.
  • Whisperings of Magic was nominated for the 2002 Red Maple Award.
  • Shadows on a Sword was chosen as one of the most outstanding books of 1996 by the Canadian Children's Book Center.
