Biography:

Carol Matas was born November 14,1949,in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was in plays of books she wrote herself. In 1970 she graduated from the University of Western Ontario and in 1972 she graduated from the Actors Lab in London, England.

Why she became a writer:

Carol Matas became a writer because a group of actors she worked with shared stories with her and she wanted to do that too. So she took a piece of paper and sat at her kitchen table and looked at her teapot. She imagined the teapot was a magic teapot and two kids hit the teapot and shrank. "What if they landed on a plant table and met Professor Ivy and the scary Spider Plant", she wrote. When she told it to her friends, they liked it and she started writing from then on. Her first book was written in 1982 "The DNA Dimension" and the newest book is "Footsteps in the Snow".

Types of books:

Carol Matas writes historical and realistic fiction. and of course adventure. She likes to write diary books when the main character is the narrator as in  "Daniel's Story" and "Code Name Kris" and much more! You can read a review I wrote of her book, The War Within.

Carol Matas has won tons of awards for her fiction and it would take 3 whole pages to list them all. So please go to her website to see all those honours.
