Biography:

Kenneth Oppel was born in 1967 in Oort Alberni, a mill town on Vancouver Island but spent most of his life in Victoria, B.C. Kenneth studied English and cinema at the University of Toronto. He currently lives in Toronto. He has written 21 book in all. His new book is called Airborne. Kenneth is geared towards writing another Silverwing book as soon as he gets an idea.

Why became a writer:

Kenneth decided to be a writer at the age of twelve. He wrote his first book Colin’s Fantastic Video Adventure at the age of fifteen. He was quite daring and sent the book to his favourite author, Roald Dahl in England. Dahl liked the book so much he recommended it to his literary agent and the rest is history. Oppel had his book published and he hasn't looked back.

Types of books:

Kenneth Oppel writes many kinds of books, but I recommend  his fantasy and adventure series-Silverwing and Sunwing. They are five star books for lots of people. I just love them. You can read a review of Sunwing written by a student.

His book Silverwing is an all around winner receiving these honours:

  • Canadian Library Assiciation Book of the Year Award
  • Hackmatack award,
  • Mr. Christie's book award,
  • Red cedar award,
  • Red maple award,
