What We Learned  What are eBooks?

This project really made us learn about the writing process. Writing a story can take a long time especially if you want it to be good . This is how we went about creating our books.

Topic Selection

We reviewed a number of children's books to get ideas on a topic which would be suitable for a young audience. In our groups we then decided on what would be the main moral or message.

Prewriting

Following the choice of the topic, we then brainstormed a variety of ideas on how to develop a story. We used various graphic organizers to link these ideas into a rough story concept.

Drafting

We took our ideas and started to write them down on paper in full sentences and paragraphs. It is helpful to skip lines at this stage to allow for small changes to be inserted later.

Revising

We looked again at our early drafts and added or deleted content which we felt to be off-topic. It was a time to look and see if we could use more interesting adjectives and adverbs in our writing.

Editing

We proofread our own work and those of others at times looking for spelling and grammar errors. During this stage it is helpful to use a coloured pen to distinguish changes that need to be made. This made it easier for us to type up the good copy using a word processor. We learned a lot about how to properly use the spell and grammar check.

Publishing

Each group typed their work and inserted hand-drawn illustrations on to the finished pages as part of their finished product. The hard copy of the story was then scanned for the pictures and these were saved as .jpg files. The electronic version of the story was converted from a Word Perfect file into a Microsoft Word file in order to be able to convert the files into a Microsoft Reader format. And that became the e-book!
