Author: Michael Bedard

Genre: Mystery

Suitable Age Category:12+

Summary:
This is a story about dark magic and mystery that takes place in the basement of the public library at Caledon.
Fourteen year old Alice gets a job at the library and everything seems to be fine until Mr. Dwyer, her boss, finds an old collection of puppets. He wants Alice to help him put on puppet show. They are going to set up a puppet show on Saturdays like the old librarian used to do thirty years ago. But when they begin practicing strange changes occur in My. Dwyer's behaviour that can't be explained logically.  You'll have to read on to find out what happens.

Rating:
I think the Painted Devil was a pretty good book. The Punch and Judy show was funny. I would give it 3 stars because I got hooked into it in the beginning and middle, but I lost interest at the end. You just can't believe some of the mysterious things that happened. This book is written for kids older than me.
