We are Grade 1 students at St.
Elizabeth School in Ottawa, Ontario. Our teacher Mrs.
Scroggins, LOVES books and has read so many wonderful ones
to us. Some of our favourite authors are Jan Brett, Eric
Carle, Robert Munsch and Dr. Seuss, just to name a few.
Learning to read and write stories has been a big part of
our year. On March 2, 2004, we
celebrated Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday with a class party. Our
Grade 5 reading buddies read Dr. Seuss books with us in the
library. All day we waited for our
'mystery reader' guest to arrive. Who could it be? What a
surprise we had when a black umbrella popped into our room
and the Cat in the Hat entered! The 'Cat' read us one of our
favourite Dr. Seuss books, Green Eggs and Ham. We
listened and laughed. What a funny story! Our party would not have been
complete without a piece of 'Cat in the Hat' cake, juice in
a 'Cat' cup and a 'Cat' birthday favour for everyone. " It
was the best day of my life," exclaimed Brent.
