Accomplishment: Agnes (Campbell) McPhail was the first woman to be elected to the House of Commons. She was also one of the two first women to be elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly. Agnes also started attending United Farmers of Canada. In 1919 women were aloud to run for parliament, in 1921 Agnes McPhail was elected in the first federal electionin which women had the vote. She was also the only woman to be elected to the House of Commons. Agnes McPhail fought for prison reform. In 1936 a Royal Commission was established, and they looked at the penal system. It later exposed the very poor prison conditions. Later in 1929 Agnes became the first Canadian woman to be sent as a delegate to the League of Nations in Geneva.

Why I Admire Her: I admire Agnes McPhail because she stood up for things like the penal system. Also I admire her because I feel she stood up for woman's rights.
